There have been allegations that MI5 covered up abuse at Kincora to protect an intelligence operation it ran in the 1970s and that it instead used the knowledge to blackmail and extract intelligence from influential men who were committing abuse.
A 1986 note – by then head of MI5, Sir Anthony Duff – followed warnings an MP had a “penchant for small boys”.
The papers also reveal that the Kincora children’s home in Northern Ireland was at the heart of further correspondence involving the security services.
